Fireball Cinnamon Whisky

Fireball Cinnamon Whisky is a 33% ABV whisky liqueur made by blending a Canadian whisky base with cinnamon aroma and sweeteners. The brand belongs to the Sazerac Company; it is sold in Europe as a whisky liqueur.

What is Fireball's story?

Fireball was developed in the mid-1980s in Canada by Seagram as one of the flavoured varieties in the Dr. McGillicuddy's range. Sazerac bought the brand's rights and recipe in 1989; the product took the name Fireball Cinnamon Whisky in 2007. Spreading rapidly across the US in the early 2010s, by 2018 Fireball had become one of the best-selling whisky-related brands there.

What does Fireball taste like?

According to The Whisky Exchange's tasting notes, the nose leads with intense, sweet cinnamon, with a light sour cinnamon touch behind it. On the palate, sweet cinnamon is felt first, followed by a gradually building spicy heat. On the finish the intensity fades, leaving a refreshing, almost menthol-like taste behind. The cinnamon largely masks the character of the whisky base.

How is it served?

Fireball is most often drunk as a well-chilled shot. It can be lengthened with apple juice, ginger ale or cola for lighter long drinks; it is also used to add a spiced flavour to winter cocktails.

What desserts does it pair with?

Thanks to the classic pairing of cinnamon and apple, it can be served in a small glass alongside apple pie, cinnamon cakes and fruit desserts.
