Efe Rakı Klasik is a 45% ABV Turkish raki produced at Efe Alkollü İçecekler's distillery in Menderes, İzmir, promoted as Turkey's first blended raki. It is made with Anatolian grapes and aniseed, and blended with the brand's triple-distilled premium raki, Kara Efe, to strengthen its taste.
Efe is the first private-sector raki to prepare for production after the state monopoly ended in 2002, launched first in Germany and then in Turkey in 2004. Klasik is the renewed version of the brand's original raki. The renewed recipe was tested in a blind tasting with 200 raki drinkers, with the brand name concealed; Aydın Boysan, a doyen of raki culture, said he found its taste worthy of his own table.
Traditionally, it is diluted with cold water and drunk in a narrow-waisted raki glass. If ice is preferred, adding it after the water prevents the aniseed oils from crystallising. Bottle sizes ranging from 20 cl to 100 cl are available for different table needs.
True to its name, Efe Klasik is a companion to the classic raki table: white cheese and melon, cold mezes such as haydari and aubergine salad, followed by grilled fish or fried squid, make for a good progression.
