Whisky Guide for Cyprus: Which Whisky Should You Choose?

Single malt, blended or bourbon? What to know when choosing whisky in North Cyprus, plus the highlights on our shelves.
At first glance the world of whisky can seem complicated: Scotch, Irish, American, Japanese... In this guide we've gathered practical tips for buying whisky in North Cyprus — especially around Bafra and Famagusta (Gazimağusa).

What is the difference between single malt and blended?
Single malt is whisky made only from malted barley at a single distillery; it has a strong character. On our single malt shelves you'll find classics such as Macallan, Glenfiddich and Talisker. Blended whisky is a blend from several distilleries; it is smoother and more approachable — Johnnie Walker and Chivas Regal are the best-known names in this family.
Which whisky should a beginner choose?
For a first bottle we recommend a smooth blend (Johnnie Walker Black, Chivas 12) or an Irish whiskey (Jameson), which is triple-distilled and very smooth. If you like a sweeter profile, start with bourbon: Jack Daniel's or Jim Beam.
What are whisky prices like in Cyprus?
Because alcohol is taxed differently in the TRNC, whisky prices generally compare favourably with those in Turkey. You can browse Jastin Off Licence's whisky selection here and ask for the current price on WhatsApp.
How should whisky be served?
Try single malt at room temperature, opening it up with a few drops of water if you like. Blended whiskies work very well with ice or soda (as a highball). Japan is the home of highball culture — try it with Suntory Toki.
